When Hands Speak: Cup’ik Dance Fans (Tegumiat)

The film explores the theme: When Hands Speak: Cup’ik Dance Fans (Tegumiat). It is significant in our community because dance and drumming is one of the most expressive parts of Cup’ik Culture that tell the stories of ancestors’ hunts and journeys. The film includes interviews with Angela Boyscout, a Cup’ik teacher at Chevak School who shared about her stories dancing using dance fans that were made by her mom. She felt in love with dancing.

This film was produced during the 2025 AHA (Anchored Histories Alaska) teacher retreat, with generous funding from the Department of Education National Activities Grant.
