Echoes of the Sea

“Echoes of the Sea” explores the deep cultural significance of seal hunting in Brevig Mission, a remote village along the Bering Sea. The film captures how hunting is more than survival—it is a tradition, a teaching, and a way of life passed down through generations. Through intimate interviews with local hunters, elders, and youth, the film reveals how skills, stories, and values are shared on the ice and at home, keeping the spirit of the ancestors alive in every hunt.

This film was produced during the 2025 AHA (Anchored Histories Alaska) teacher retreat, with generous funding from the Department of Education National Activities Grant.
