It’s Time For Movie Monday!

Movie Monday: Raven’s Story
This week’s Movie Monday features Raven’s Story, a powerful film by Naknek student Keyanna Anderson, featuring original artwork and graphics by Courtney Tatellgaq Rose Griechen.
This traditional oral story, passed down through the descendants of Katmai, tells how salmon came to be. Through narration and original visuals, the film brings this story to life, sharing an important part of the history and cultural knowledge carried by Katmai descendants.
This film features Joyce Anderson, who reflects on what it means to be an Indigenous woman and a descendant of Katmai, and the deep connection between people, land, and stewardship.
Raven’s Story reminds us of the connections between cultural knowledge, the land, and the salmon that have sustained communities for generations. We’re grateful to Keyanna for bringing this story to film and to Courtney for the original artwork and graphics that help tell it.
This film was produced during the 2026 Currents of Connection youth media workshop in Naknek, made possible by generous support from the World Wildlife Fund and Bristol Bay Economic Development, in partnership with Native Movement, Bristol Bay Media, the Naknek Native Village Council, and the Bristol Bay Museum.
Watch Raven’s Story and experience this traditional oral story for yourself.
