ANILCA

See Stories is proud to share a SNEAK PREVIEW of our new collection of films and lesson plans exploring the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA)

  • Each lesson stands alone. They are designed for educators to choose the parts that fit with your class.
  • Our goal is to help students gain a basic understanding of ANILCA and to see multiple perspectives. There is a lot more to learn; we don’t cover it all.
  • Standards-aligned. Each lesson meets multiple new social studies standards for 9th-grade Alaska Studies.

Background for this project:

With generous support from Audubon Alaska and the Jeanne S. Williams Fund at Alaska Conservation Foundation, See Stories led an internship for 8 young adults to learn in-depth about the history of ANILCA, meet and discuss with policymakers, Alaska Native Elders and leaders, as well as representatives from federal agencies managing land with ANILCA provisions. These interns created 5 short documentary films, each telling a different piece of the ANILCA story. Their films highlight the crucial role that ANILCA plays in managing and conserving Alaska’s federal land, while giving special attention to conveying the many and diverse perspectives on this topic.
