Yakutat Subsistence

This film focuses on Yakutat subsistence, an important topic for Yakutat youth and residents, who rely on the land for sustenance and intend to continue this practice. Student filmmakers Dyson and Greg learned about subsistence rights through the story of Katie John and attribute this film to her work.

This film was produced during the 2025 Yakutat Middle School “100 Years From Now” youth film workshop, made possible with funding provided by the National Park Service, the Alaska Mental Health Trust, and the Alaska State Council on the Arts.

Workshop Info

These films were created by Middle School Students from Yakutat, Alaska. Inspired by a community wide effort to create culturally centered land stewardship and planning, students reflected on important events and themes in Yakutat over the past 100 years as a touching point to express their hopes and dreams for the next 100 years.
