Yakutat World War II Stories
This film is about World War II and the impact it has had on Yakutat over time. Youth filmmakers Ethan, Xavier, and Chris say “It is important to know our history so we learn from our mistakes. From an interview, we learned that a ship blew up in the bay near Yakutat.”
This film was produced during the 2025 Yakutat Middle School “100 Years From Now” youth film workshop, made possible with funding provided by the National Park Service, the Alaska Mental Health Trust, and the Alaska State Council on the Arts.
Workshop Info
These films were created by Middle School Students from Yakutat, Alaska. Inspired by a community wide effort to create culturally centered land stewardship and planning, students reflected on important events and themes in Yakutat over the past 100 years as a touching point to express their hopes and dreams for the next 100 years.
