Yakutat Forests

“Yakutat Forests” outlines the important of the forest ecosystem to the Yakutat community. Berry picking, cultural traditions, animal habitat, food resources- the forests are crucial to life in Yakutat. In this film, youth filmmaker Malena explains what makes the forest important to her, and how she hopes they will be be protected over time.

This film was produced during through See Stories 2024-2025 Youth Media Internship in Yakutat, made possible with funding provided by the National Park Service, the Alaska Mental Health Trust, and the Alaska State Council on the Arts.

Workshop Info

During the Summer of 2024, See Stories partnered with Fathoms Alaska to support 3 youth in See Stories' first ever wilderness-based Media Internship. Youth learned media skills, and filmed outside, while learning wilderness and canoe skills from Fathoms. Interns completed the editing and final production of their films during the 2024-2025 school year.
