The Paddle Workshop

In the Summer of 2024, Yakutat Youth learned canoeing skills through a program run by Fathoms Alaska. This film made by youth canoe participant and filmmaker Laycie, tells the story of the paddle workshop; exploring the joy of learning to paddle a canoe.

This film was produced during through See Stories 2024-2025 Youth Media Internship in Yakutat, made possible with funding provided by the National Park Service, the Alaska Mental Health Trust, and the Alaska State Council on the Arts.

Workshop Info

During the Summer of 2024, See Stories partnered with Fathoms Alaska to support 3 youth in See Stories' first ever wilderness-based Media Internship. Youth learned media skills, and filmed outside, while learning wilderness and canoe skills from Fathoms. Interns completed the editing and final production of their films during the 2024-2025 school year.
