Discovered
“Disovered” is a one of a kind project; giving voice to a special group of young women typically without a platform to share their journey. For years See Stories has led the program “Shakespeare and Hip Hop” with Alaskan youth. Students read Shakespeare and relate its endless themes to their lives, then write and record original Hip-Hop songs based on their reflections.
“Discovered” is inspired by themes derived from Macbeth; five young women tell their stories of pain, isolation, and anxiety but also perseverance, self-worth, and strength. This project is possible with support from Shakespeare teaching artist Keith McGill, Alaskan hip hop artist Tayy Tarantino, Connor Meyer video production, the Juneau School District, and funding from the Richard L. & Diane M. Block Foundation.
