Movie Monday: Carrying Our Culture

It’s time for Movie Monday!

Growing up in Yakutat means being surrounded by Tlingit culture as part of everyday life. From fishing with family to gathering medicinal plants, culture is something practiced, shared, and carried forward with care.

In this short documentary, youth filmmakers Kylie and Greg speak with community members about the importance of teaching the next generation, tending to the land with intention, and staying rooted in traditional knowledge. Their experiences show how cultural practices can offer grounding, healing, and connection.

Carrying Our Culture was created during See Stories’ Power of Place workshop at Yakutat Middle School. This program was supported by the National Park Service, the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority, and the Alaska State Council on the Arts Cultural Collaborations Grant.
