See Stories is growing, and we’re excited to share an opportunity to join our team as a Development & Grants Manager.

This is a new full-time position that will play a key role in supporting the continued growth and long-term sustainability of See Stories. As an organization rooted in building inclusive communities through film and story, we are looking for someone who is excited to help strengthen the relationships, resources, and systems that make this work possible across Alaska.

The Development & Grants Manager will work closely and collaboratively with our Executive Director, Board of Directors, staff, donors, funders, and partners to develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy while also overseeing grant administration.

About the Role

This position is split evenly between two core areas of work:

Development & Fundraising (approximately 50%)

In this portion of the role, the Development & Grants Manager will help build and sustain the relationships and resources that support See Stories’ mission. Responsibilities include:

  • In concert with the Executive Director and Board of Directors, develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan to meet the organization’s annual revenue and long-term strategic goals.
  • The Development Manager, together with the Executive Director, is responsible for developing and implementing fundraising strategies and targets. 
  • Identify, cultivate, and steward all current and prospective donors.
  • Identify and cultivate corporate and foundation donors.  Secure corporate sponsors for programs and events. 
  • Develop grant proposals to secure funding from corporations, private foundations, and government entities.
  • Manage the annual fund drive, capital campaign, and other unique campaigns.
  • Plan and execute special events that engage donors and raise funds for the organization.
  • Develop and execute effective donor communications and marketing materials using our bloomerang platform, including print and digital media.
  • Monitor and analyze fundraising data to evaluate performance and adjust strategies as needed. 
  • Report monthly to the Board of Directors 
  • Participate in the budget process and stay aware of the current budget as it applies to development, accounting for any variances regularly.

Grants Administration (approximately 50%)

In this portion of the role, the Development & Grants Manager will help ensure strong systems and processes for managing See Stories’ grant portfolio. Responsibilities include:

  • Implement, streamline, and evaluate grants administration processes;
  • Screen grant applications and reporting materials for completeness
  • Record all grantmaking activities with accuracy using online grants management system;
  • Track and review drawdowns and reports due, and liaise with staff on report writing
  • Maintain and update grantmaking procedure manuals and grant cycle timelines

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, collaborative thinker, and creative problem solver who is comfortable working across teams and building relationships with a wide range of partners.

  • Feels aligned with See Stories’ mission of building inclusive communities through film and story
  • Is interested in relationship-centered, place-based work across Alaska, particularly in rural and Native communities across Alaska
  • Brings curiosity and care to cross-cultural communication and education strategies
  • Has strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Is flexible and responsive to the evolving needs of community partners and programs
  • Enjoys both strategic thinking and detailed administrative work

Experience in fundraising, development, donor relations, grantsmanship, or related fields is important. However, we recognize that experience can take many forms, and we encourage applicants who feel aligned with this work to apply even if they do not meet every listed qualification.

Position Details

Position: Development & Grants Manager
Status: Full-time, 40 hours per week (Specific hours worked are flexible depending on See Stories’ programs & employee needs)
Location: Virtual, anywhere in Alaska, with travel for in-person development events and fundraisers two to three times per year
Salary: $73,000–$80,000, depending on experience, with opportunity for growth
Start Date: Ideally November 16, 2026, with some flexibility

This position is currently funded for three years, with potential for growth and expansion.

Qualification and Experience:

The following qualifications are desired, but if you believe you are a fit for the job and do not have all of these qualifications, please do not hesitate to apply.

  • B.A. required, M.A. a plus
  • Three or more years of development/fundraising experience, including donor relations, and grantsmanship
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong administrative, reporting, and record-keeping skills
  • Available to work evenings and weekends for events and meetings and to travel locally and regionally.
  • Deep commitment to the organization’s mission and values
